Dear current/future Otakus members,
Welcome back to the BCC Otakus forum! As you have probably already noticed, I've done a major overhaul to the forum layout and formatting. A good lot of you previously mentioned that the previous color scheme made it really hard to read, and was particularly jarring on the eyes. I hope this scheme works better for you. (Don't forget to vote on the poll at the top, and tell me what you think!)
Happy New Year to you all! I'm hoping everyone made it through the holidays okay, and I'm psyched to see you all come the new semester (reminder: first day of school is January 11th, 2010). I know that we ended our last meeting on a very random and suspended note, and several of you have approached me with questions about the Otakus' future. Let me try to clear a few things up.
I heard from [enter informant name here] that the club is officially dead and broken up. Is that true?
Pfft, and throw away several months of hard work and fun times? Not on my damn watch!
As it stands right now, I am very certain that the club will live on to see this coming Spring semester, and hopefully the summer as well. There has been, however, a lot of fumbling in the dark as far as details are concerned, since school is not in session and we all had the holidays on the brain.
...If that's true, why haven't you posted something before about it?
Remember, I can't post on the forum using my phone, I don't have Internet at home, and getting to a PC with a connection can sometimes be difficult. I post when I can.
Yay, the club is coming baaaack! W00t! We still meet Thursdays at 4pm, right?
Actually, we haven't had a chance to set up a meeting day or time yet. Since the holidays are just now ending, I can now focus on preparing paperwork, and getting the staff together to figure things out. Officers: please keep an ear out in the next few days; I will be calling each of you to verify a day and time that would be best for us to gather and plan a few things.
I heard from [enter informant name here] that the SGA room got taken away from the students. Is this true, and if so, where are we gonna meet?
You heard right...sort of. What happened was that the former student activities room (a.k.a., the SGA room), Room 118, located in Bldg. 10, is being converted to the new Office of Students with Disabilities room, because they are in need of more space. Going only by the information I know right now (which isn't much), no new SGA room has been assigned.
As far as a new meeting place, one has not yet been found, though rest assured, your SGA is working their asses off to accommodate us. Info will be announced as it is given.
Will we still meet on the Melbourne BCC campus, at least?
Most likely.
Are the content of the meetings gonna be the same as before? Watching all that anime was awesome!
Oh, don't worry: we're still awesome, and we're still gonna watch a lot of anime. But if things work out the way I wish them to, there will be a few adjustments to the Otakus' structure.
Such as?
There used to be a set schedule, stating well ahead of time which anime we'd be watching every meeting. I plan to go back to that, and stick with it. Also, more manga-related activities need to be put in, and there will be the occasional group discussion about anime-related history or subjects.
This club became somewhat closed only to people who are already knowledgeable of the culture, and that needs to be fixed. I want anyone and everyone to feel welcome, and feel like they're gaining something from it all.
Hmm...sounds like you're gonna make the meetings all strict and stuff.
To a degree. This club is still gonna be the most fun that campus has ever seen, BUT we do represent Brevard Community College, it's student body, and the county itself. I want us to enjoy it all, just with a little bit of backbone. A few new rules will be implemented, and if you want to continue to attend meetings, they will be acknowledged and adhered to. I'll go more into detail on all that come our first meeting.
...You never did tell us when that first meeting was...
...And I won't do so until I meet with all of our officers. I am relatively certain, however, that the first Otakus' meeting of the new semester will not occur until AFTER January 18th, 2010. Keep checking here on the forum; it'll be announced as soon as we figure out that date.
Any idea what anime we're gonna watch first?
Not a clue. But a lot of people have asked me to restart "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann" from the beginning and finish it this time. I might consider it.
Does the same "no-bootleg" rule still apply?
For the moment, yes, it does. Any revisions or changes to that (assuming there ARE any!) will be announced at a later date.
Is there anything WE need to do right now?
Right now? Not a thing. Just keep checking the forum for up-to-date news.
Hey! I have a suggestion to make the new-and-improved Otakus' better!
Awesome! I need all the help I can get. You can post your idea in the Club and Forum Feedback board. I especially need help creating manga-related activities for the group to do.
What if I have a question that wasn't posted here?
Reply to this topic. I'll get to it eventually.
...Have a Happy New Year, and I hope to see you guys soon!
